Alex Toohey was set to head to collegiate powerhouse Gonzaga this season, but a change of direction has seen him turn out for the Sydney Kings in NBL24, and Toohey has established himself as one of the most consistent young talents across the competition this campaign.

Toohey has made 20 appearances for the Kings so far this season and has seen his draft stock soar under the tutelage of Mahmoud Abdelfattah. The Centre of Excellence graduate was ranked 43rd by ESPN in a recent mock draft, and has been mooted as a potential first round pick by The Athletic.

“100 per cent it’s been the right decision to come to the NBL,” Toohey said.

“Tribute to the Next Stars program and the Sydney Kings for how much they’ve been able to give me and the resources that have been put at my disposal, it’s very cool.

“Have a great team around me that just wants the best for me and that professional environment, I don’t think you can replicate that in many other places.”
