It’s been two seasons since Mojave King last played in the NBL and his return to the league could be exactly what catapults him back onto the NBA scene.
King was drafted with the 47th pick in 2023 and spent the majority of the season in the G-League, but he understands exactly what a strong season in the NBL could mean for his career.
“My ultimate goal is still to get to the NBA,” King told Stuff.co.nz.
“This is a really good league in its own right, so having an opportunity to play here is something to be grateful for. This league and this team especially have their own reputations and I’m excited to represent that as well.”
King initially showcased how much he’s improved during the Breakers' pre-season games, before playing a major role in their opening round win over Brisbane.
“I’m definitely going to surprise a couple of people with the player I am and what I’m going to be able to show this year,” he said.
King was perfect in the first half on Saturday, scoring 10 points on 4-4 from the field to go with two steals, clearly thriving playing alongside Parker Jackson-Cartwright.
“He (Jackson-Cartwright) does some cool things with the basketball and you’ve got to be ready at all times,” King said.
While King spent the majority of his childhood in Australia, he doesn’t forget where he was born and it’s a major reason he’s excited to be in a Breakers uniform.
“When people ask me where I’m from, it’s New Zealand,” he said.
“It definitely feels like I get more love from Kiwis than Aussies. It’s been good to come back and get familiar with being back over here again.”
“I’m super excited to be here, and I think this year is going to be a great opportunity for me to keep progressing on to bigger and better things.”
