He's already one of Australia's brightest young talents, but Alex Toohey has taken another key step in his career with a strong performance at international level.

Toohey scored 22 points, including nine in the last quarter alone, as Australia Select drew with Japan in the second of their friendly games on Sunday in Sapporo.

After Sam Froling dominated game one, it was the Sydney Kings Next Star who made his presence felt in the 95-95 result.

Perth Wildcats signing Elijah Pepper was impressive across both fixtures, backing up his 12 points in game one with a further 13, five rebounds and seven assists in the second leg.

Mitch Norton was next best of the NBL contingent, with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists, while 19-year-old Alex Condon, who currently plays with the Florida Gators, had 13 and three boards.

Australia scored a one-point win in game one.
